00 | General Conference Session | Long-Term Care - A European Perspective | Tuesday 10:45:00 (75 min) |
Panel Discussion | |
Session Description: Population aging is a key common challenge to the sustainability of long-term care systems in Europe in the medium to longer-term perspective. With rising life expectancy, more people are likely to reach an age where declining physical and mental health make them dependent on help from others. At the same time, the pool of family carers is shrinking due to families having fewer children, rising female employment and increasing pensionable ages. Whilst most European citizens are relying on their government to provide them with affordable long-term care of good quality, in particular home-care and community-based services, funding of these services becomes more problematic against a backdrop of aging population. During his presentation, presenters will address how the partners of Eurapco, a friendly alliance of 8 independent mutual insurers in Europe, are currently tackling the challenges in long-term care. |

Technology | The Federal Interagency Task Force on Long-Term Care Insurance | Tuesday 14:00:00 (75 min) |
Open Forum | ||
Session Description: In 2018, the U.S. Department of the Treasury convened the Federal Interagency Task Force on Long-Term Care Insurance in response to recommendations in Treasury’s October 2017 Report on Asset Management and Insurance. The purpose of the Task Force is to develop policies to complement reforms at the state level relating to the regulation of LTC insurance. Public comments on potential reforms were submitted to the Task Force in August 2019, and Treasury is preparing a final report of the Task Force for publication in the near future. In advance of that report, this interactive session will engage participants in a discussion about several potential long-term care reform proposals and actions at the federal level that could help states and the industry be more productive with private market solutions. The session will be moderated by Vince Bodnar of Oliver Wyman, and will feature Michael Faulkender, Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy, U.S. Department of the Treasury and Chairperson, Federal Interagency Task Force on Long Term Care Insurance. This session is an “off the record” conversation, meaning that all discussions in the room are intended to stay in the room until the report becomes public. |
